Natural Stone Tiles & Pavers — Landsborough, QLD
Natural Stone Tiles for Landsborough's Historic Hinterland Heart
Period-Sympathetic Stone, Sampled Before You Buy
Stone and Rock supplies natural stone tiles, pavers, cladding, stepping stones and sealers across the wider Sunshine Coast from its Baringa display showroom. Landsborough is a different brief from the coast: the town began as a timber town in 1871, became the region's transport hub when the railway arrived in 1890, and keeps many buildings from its pre-1940 golden age on the main street — while its housing is overwhelmingly detached and owner-occupied. For paths, steps, garden edging and verandah surrounds in a town like that, the practical question is which stone will sit comfortably beside that streetscape and stand up to the region's wet summers. Order a sample, or see the display walls any day from 7am to 9pm before you commit.
Landsborough's dates are worth knowing before you pick a finish: first European settlement as a timber town in 1871, a railway from 1890 that made Landsborough Station the region's transport hub, and a golden age running to the late 1930s that left many of the buildings still standing on the main street today. Sunshine Coast Council calls the town its "historic hinterland heart," and the revitalised Cribb Street streetscape now carries the Landsborough Heritage Walk through that layered history. None of that makes your own project a heritage job, and it does not need to be: around the town centre, 87.8 per cent of occupied dwellings are separate houses and 75.5 per cent of homes are owner-occupied — owners improving places they intend to keep. What the streetscape does set is a visual standard: a new front path, a run of steps or a verandah surround reads differently beside a main street of pre-1940 buildings, and natural stone is the material that lets new work sit quietly in that setting.
Choosing the right stone
Choosing natural stone for Landsborough's heritage streetscape
The Heritage Walk exists because the buildings do: the Mellum Club Hotel has stood since 1888, and the 1924 former Landsborough Shire Council Chambers now houses the Landsborough Museum. Against that backdrop, tumbled or honed stone in warm, muted tones sits more comfortably beside weathered timber and early-twentieth-century brick than a crisp, obviously modern surface — a design observation, not a heritage requirement.
Best uses: garden edging, paths, steps and verandah surrounds
Street-visible elements do the most work here: edging and a front path set the first impression, steps and a verandah surround carry it to the door. The verified range covers each — bluestone stepping stones, travertine tiles, pavers and crazy pavers, and sandstone and natural stone wall cladding for verandah plinths and low garden walls. Indoors, stone earns its keep on hinterland evenings, with stacked stone panels a popular choice behind a wood burner.
Travertine, limestone, marble or sandstone: which suits a period reno
No stone is "the" period stone; choose by tone, texture and position instead. Travertine and limestone give softer, warmer surfaces; marble reads more formal; sandstone, stocked as wall cladding, offers the most informal, weathered face of the four. The deciding step is physical: hold a sample against your timber, brick or render, or line the shortlist up on the Baringa display walls.
What we supply
One range for a period-sympathetic renovation
Natural stone tiles
For a Landsborough project, bring photos of the surfaces the stone will sit beside: matching tone to weathered timber and brick matters more here than chasing a trend.
Travertine tiles & pavers
Tumbled travertine formats suit the paths, steps and verandah surrounds that face Landsborough's streetscape — and the DIY route is review-proven.
Stone wall cladding
For a hinterland home, a cladded fireplace or verandah plinth is a low-risk first stone project with proven DIY form — including stacked stone behind a wood burner.
Bluestone stepping stones
Stepping stones and edging are a small first order that lets a Landsborough garden test stone in its own light before a bigger commitment.
Stone sealers (Aqua Mix Enrich'N'Seal)
Documented for unsealed marble, limestone and travertine among others, interior and exterior, with a stated life of up to 15 years. With the region's rain concentrated in late summer, sealing belongs in the order, not the afterthoughts.
Getting it right near the streetscape
What to plan for before you buy
Making new work look at home near a pre-1940 main street
Landsborough's centre keeps buildings from its 1871–1930s timber-town era, and most off-the-shelf modern surfaces visibly post-date all of it. Line up tumbled and honed options on the Baringa display walls, or check a delivered sample against your own materials.
Committing to a colour or batch from photos
Natural stone varies batch to batch, and screen photos flatten tone and texture. Order samples through the site's samples section, or use self-service showroom access any day from 7am to 9pm.
Outdoor stone laid before the wet season is considered
The Sunshine Coast region's rainfall — about 1,493mm a year — concentrates in late summer, so new paths and steps meet their hardest weather within months. Staff give sealing advice with the sale, rated for a minimum 48-hour full cure.
Planning a ute run to Baringa to collect an order
Baringa has real display walls and daily self-service access, but it is a display and selection site only. Pickup is not available — orders are delivered, or collected from Springwood, which opens Saturdays 9am–2pm.
Wanting to lay the stone yourself without knowing if it's realistic
Stone and Rock supplies rather than installs, serving private individuals alongside tilers and builders. Store-wide reviews evidence the path: crazy pavers, cladding and stacked stone panels laid by customers themselves.
Guessing whether a specialist beats big-box pricing
Buyers demonstrably cross-shop big-box retail on price, but category pages rarely compare like-for-like stone. The company's own explanation is direct sourcing from quarries and factories — order a sample and price your exact stone.

Questions we hear
Landsborough stone FAQ
Which natural stone suits a renovation near Landsborough's heritage streetscape?⌄
No single stone is "the" heritage answer. The town centre keeps buildings from 1888 to the late 1930s, so surfaces with softer, warmer, less machine-perfect finishes — tumbled travertine, honed limestone, sandstone cladding — tend to sit comfortably beside it. Treat that as a design cue, not a rule: order samples or line up options on the Baringa display walls and judge them against your own materials.
Does Stone and Rock deliver to Landsborough?⌄
Landsborough is covered as part of the wider Sunshine Coast area the business serves from its Baringa showroom. Delivery zones, fees and lead times for a specific address are not published, so confirm them when you order.
Can I pick up my order at the Baringa showroom?⌄
No. Baringa is a display and selection site; pickup is not available there. Orders are delivered, or can be collected from the Springwood warehouse at 3362 Pacific Highway, Springwood QLD 4127 on Brisbane's southside — open Monday to Thursday 8am–4pm, Friday 7am–12pm and Saturday 9am–2pm, closed Sunday.
Can I install natural stone paths or steps myself?⌄
Many customers do. Stone and Rock supplies both trade and private buyers, and store-wide reviews document finished DIY projects — crazy pavers, stacked stone and cladding laid by customers themselves. Ask staff about surface preparation and sealing before you start.
How should outdoor stone be sealed for the wet season?⌄
Regionally, the Sunshine Coast records about 1,493mm of rain a year at the BoM's Sunshine Coast Airport station, heaviest in February and March. Aqua Mix documents its Enrich'N'Seal penetrating sealer, stocked in store, for unsealed natural stone including marble, limestone and travertine, interior and exterior, with a manufacturer-stated life of up to 15 years and full cure in a minimum of 48 hours. Sandstone is not on that manufacturer's list, so ask staff to match a sealer before ordering.
Is a stone specialist cheaper than a big-box store?⌄
Compare the exact product. One attributed review reads: "The price was excellent, much cheaper than Bunnings. I will return for future projects." That is one customer's purchase, not a store-wide price claim. Stone and Rock's own explanation of its pricing is direct sourcing — no middlemen, dealing directly with the source.
