Natural Stone Wall Cladding | Crestmead, Logan

Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead

A full house frontage, a long boundary face or a run of driveway piers swallows a lot more stone than one feature wall. That makes quantity and weight the first two questions, not the last. Stone and Rock publishes pack sizes, piece weights and crate volumes for every cladding format we stock, so Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead orders can be worked out in boxes, cartons and crates before anything is paid for. Stock, display walls and the only pickup point sit together at our Springwood warehouse on the Pacific Highway. Measure the run, count the corners, then order Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead in full packs.

Crestmead is a suburb of detached houses on full blocks: at the 2021 Census 96.2% of occupied dwellings were separate houses, 42.1% had four or more bedrooms, and there were two registered motor vehicles per dwelling. Wide frontages, long side boundaries and double garages mean the walls people want to clad here are measured in many square metres, not a couple. Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead projects stall when the stone is ordered a box at a time and the batch runs short. We supply three formats with published pack and crate sizes, separate corner pieces and a single pickup address, so a large Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead order lands in one go.

Why choose us

Ordering a large cladding run in Crestmead without guesswork

Buying Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead by the pack only works if the packs are documented. Ours are, and corner pieces are sold as their own line item rather than buried in the wall area.

The maths matters as much as the stone. One review of a large free form Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead style order put it plainly: "The order arrived on time and intact."

  • Pack sizes published for each format. Stacked stone panels come five to a box: 0.45 m2 for the 15 x 60 x 1.5 cm panel, 0.6 m2 for the 20 x 60 x 1.5 cm. Cross Ledgestone runs four pieces to a 0.42 m2 carton and 36 cartons to a 15.12 m2 crate. Free form loose stone ships as one square metre layers in 15 m2 crates.
  • Weights you can plan a vehicle around. Stacked stone panels weigh roughly 3.9 to 4 kg each and about 42.9 to 44 kg per square metre. Ledgestone pieces are about 7.15 kg each and roughly 28.6 kg a carton. Free form loose stone is around 65 kg per square metre.
  • A stated pallet maximum. Stacked stone panels carry a maximum pallet load of 21 m2, which is the figure to split a long frontage against.
  • Corners counted separately. Free form corner pieces are sold by the lineal metre at about 25 kg per lineal metre, and ledgestone corners are matched units. Measure the external dimension of every corner, not the inside size.
  • One pickup address, with display walls. Springwood holds the stock, shows the formats at full size and is the only collection point.
  • Samples before a crate. Order up to three samples and check the colour on your own wall first.

The range

Cladding formats for long runs and big frontages

Each format we supply suits a different size of job. These are the ones Crestmead buyers reach for when the wall area is large, and every one of them is stocked for Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead orders at Springwood, where a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead order is also collected.

Whole frontages in stacked stone panels

Covering a house front in loose pieces takes a long time. Z Cut stacked stone panels arrive pre-assembled at 15 x 60 or 20 x 60 cm, five to a box, so coverage goes up in 0.45 m2 or 0.6 m2 steps and the texture stays even across a wide wall. The 21 m2 pallet maximum tells you how many loads a frontage needs.

Boundary and fence faces in ledgestone

Long, low walls read better with horizontal lines. Cross Ledgestone is supplied at L60 x W20 cm, 2 to 4 cm thick, four pieces to a 0.42 m2 carton and 36 cartons to a 15.12 m2 crate, in quartz, granite, slate and quartzite. Crate quantities make a run of boundary panels straightforward to price.

Free form loose stone for rubble-look walls

Some walls want no repeat at all. Free form loose stone comes in pieces 200 to 500 mm wide and 15 to 40 mm thick, shipped as one square metre layers in 15 m2 crates, in granite, quartz, sandstone and quartz-mix. It is published as suitable for dry wall stack or grouted wall design, and weighs about 65 kg per square metre.

Corner and return quantities

A Crestmead frontage usually has more external corners than people count: piers, a garage return, a letterbox block. Corner pieces are separate items, by the lineal metre for free form stone and as matching units for ledgestone. Tally the corners off the plan, measure each one externally, then add them to the wall area.

Samples ahead of a bulk order

Committing a crate to the wrong grey is expensive. Choose the SAMPLE option on a product page and add up to three to the cart; samples ship within three working days from Queensland. Stand them against the brick, the render and the roof colour in daylight before the full order goes in.

Local insights

What Crestmead walls are usually made of, and what that changes

Crestmead grew out of grazing and timber country into urban subdivisions from the late 1970s, and the housing stock reflects that: 4,129 private dwellings at the 2021 Census, almost all of them separate houses, with 51.1% on three bedrooms and 42.1% on four or more. Practically, that means most cladding here goes onto brickwork, rendered block or a sheeted frame rather than a bare concrete wall.

That substrate decides a lot. ARDEX Australia's technical bulletin TB148 notes that under AS 3958 concrete block and brick should be rendered before cladding tiles are adhesive fixed, that stack stone cladding tiles frequently weigh in the order of 50 to 80 kg per square metre, and that additional mechanical fixing devices are recommended where a substrate's weight limit is exceeded and where tiles sit three metres or higher above ground level. ARDEX also gives 6 mm fibre cement wallboard fixed at 200 mm centres a weight-carrying capacity of only 20 kg per square metre, rising to 32 kg per square metre at 100 mm centres, and recommends that qualified engineers determine whether a sub-wall is suitable. That is ARDEX's guidance, not ours; we supply the stone and publish what it weighs.

Approvals are worth checking before a long run goes up. Logan City Council lists a fence of not more than 2 metres high, excluding pool fencing, and a retaining wall of not more than 1 metre high with no building or driveway loading it, as accepted development, while noting that exempt work still has to meet the Logan Planning Scheme 2015 and the Queensland Development Code. Private building certifiers have issued building approvals in Logan since April 1998, so a certifier is who confirms what your job needs. Our approach to Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead is to hand you the published weights and pack sizes for your certifier and installer to work from, and to keep every Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead order in one place at Springwood.

Questions we hear

Quantity, weight and approval questions from Crestmead

How much stone comes in one box, carton or crate?⌄

It depends on the format. Stacked stone panels come five to a box, which is 0.45 m2 for the 15 x 60 cm panel and 0.6 m2 for the 20 x 60 cm panel. Cross Ledgestone is four pieces to a carton at 0.42 m2, with 36 cartons to a 15.12 m2 crate. Free form loose stone is packed as one square metre layers in 15 m2 crates, so you order whole square metres of it.

Which format is heaviest, and what does it weigh?⌄

Free form loose stone is the heaviest we publish a square metre figure for, at about 65 kg per square metre, with corner pieces around 25 kg per lineal metre. Stacked stone panels are roughly 3.9 to 4 kg per panel and about 42.9 to 44 kg per square metre. Ledgestone is published per piece and per carton, at about 7.15 kg and 28.6 kg. Use those figures when you work out loads for a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead run.

Is there a limit to how much stone fits on one pallet?⌄

Yes for the stacked stone panels: the published maximum pallet load is 21 m2. A frontage larger than that is simply split across more than one pallet, and the pack maths stays the same. Ledgestone is crated at 15.12 m2 per crate and free form loose stone at 15 m2 per crate, so large runs are naturally ordered in crate multiples rather than loose boxes.

How do I count corner pieces for a long front wall?⌄

Count external corners off your plan, not off the wall area. Every pier, garage return and letterbox block is a corner. Free form corners are sold by the lineal metre at 100 to 200 mm by 100 to 150 mm, and ledgestone corners are matching units supplied at the same dimensions as the face pieces. When measuring for corners, use the external dimension rather than the inside size, then add that total to your square metres.

Do I need council approval to clad a boundary or retaining wall in Crestmead?⌄

Ask a private building certifier, because they are who issues building approvals in Logan and have done since April 1998. Logan City Council lists a fence of not more than 2 metres high, excluding pool fencing, and a retaining wall of not more than 1 metre high with no building or driveway loading it, as accepted development, and notes that exempt work must still meet the Logan Planning Scheme 2015 and the Queensland Development Code.

Can I collect a bulk order myself?⌄

Yes, from Springwood only. The warehouse at 3362 Pacific Highway releases pickup orders Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm, Friday 7am to 12pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm, and is closed Sunday. Bring a vehicle or trailer rated for the published weights, or ask us to deliver the packs instead. The Baringa showroom on the Sunshine Coast is display only and does not offer pickup.

Can I get samples before committing to a crate?⌄

Yes. Select the SAMPLE option on a product page and add up to three samples to your cart; they ship within three working days from Queensland. For a large Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead order this is the cheapest step you can take, because colour on a screen rarely matches colour against your own brickwork, render and roof tiles in daylight.

Does the stone need sealing once the wall is finished?⌄

Our free form product pages state that the majority of natural products must be sealed immediately post laying, and direct buyers to check the sealer manufacturer's guidelines for the reapplication period in years. We stock sealers and our staff will talk you through care, but the sealer manufacturer's instructions govern coverage, curing and how often the wall needs redoing.

About the supplier

Where Crestmead cladding orders are stocked and collected

Crestmead's European settlement began in 1885, when Swedish families who had arrived on the Chybassa took up land in the district, and an 1886 survey recorded poor sandy soil and heavy timber. John and George Hubner selected farms around 1893, and the district carried the unofficial name Hubner for years afterwards. Grazing and timber held the area until urban subdivisions began in the late 1970s. An industrial estate opened in 1981 on land once held by Mans Stjernqvist, the state school opened under the name Crestmead in 1984, and the suburb was gazetted in 1987. Those late-century subdivisions are the detached houses whose frontages and boundary walls get clad today.

We do not have an office or yard in Crestmead. Every Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead order is stocked, picked and released from our Springwood warehouse, which also has display walls so you can see each format at full size. The hours below are Springwood's, and Springwood is the only site where a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Crestmead order can be collected.
