Natural Stone Wall Cladding | Marsden, Logan

Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden

Stone looks different on a phone screen than it does on a wall in afternoon light. Panel joints disappear, shadow lines flatten, and greys go warm or cold depending on what is next to them. So the sensible way to buy Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden is to narrow it to two or three options, get samples in your hand and see the formats at full size before a single carton is ordered. Stone and Rock stocks three cladding formats, lets you add up to three samples to a cart, and has display walls at our Springwood warehouse. Pick the Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden finish first, then the quantity.

Marsden's streets are not one kind of house. At the 2021 Census 79.4% of occupied dwellings were separate houses and 20.4% were semi-detached, row, terrace or townhouse dwellings, so a stone wall here often has to sit comfortably beside both a brick house and a rendered townhouse wall. That makes the choice of format, texture and tone more consequential than the square metre count. Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden buyers who order samples first rarely regret the finish. We publish the dimensions, the joint style and the dry-stack or grouted options for every format, so a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden decision can be made with the stone in front of you.

Why choose us

How Marsden buyers settle on a cladding finish

Choosing Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden is a decision about texture and joint pattern as much as colour. We give you three different ways to look at it before you commit.

One customer summed up the moment a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden sample becomes a wall: "I am obsessed with this stone. We get a lot of compliments on it without the job even being finished!"

  • Samples you can hold. Select the SAMPLE option on a product page and add up to three samples to the cart. They ship within three working days from Queensland, so you get a weekend with them against the real wall.
  • Display walls at full size. Our Springwood warehouse has physical display walls, so you see how a panel repeats across a metre instead of judging a 150 mm offcut. Baringa has display walls too, but no pickup.
  • Three genuinely different formats. Z Cut stacked stone panels in 15 x 60 x 1.5 cm or 20 x 60 x 1.5 cm give an even, tight texture. Cross Ledgestone at L60 x W20 cm and 2 to 4 cm thick reads as deep horizontal layers. Free form loose stone, 200 to 500 mm wide, gives a hand-laid face with no repeat.
  • Dry-stacked or grouted, published either way. The free form range is listed as suitable for dry wall stack or grouted wall design, and our stacked stone copy says a panel works best dry stacked for a monolithic look, though grout can be added for defined lines.
  • Stone families named. Ledgestone comes in quartz, granite, slate and quartzite; free form in granite, quartz, sandstone and quartz-mix.
  • Advice in store. Staff talk through care and sealing while you choose, and customers come in for exactly that.

The range

Ways to compare cladding before you order

Each card below is a step in choosing Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden, from the first shortlist to the final quantity. Work through them in order and a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden order should only need placing once.

Start with a sample shortlist

Three options is the right number: any more and they blur together. Add up to three samples to your cart from the product pages, then stand them against the brick, render, roof and fence you already have. Daylight at two different times of day settles most arguments about whether a grey is warm or cold.

How samples work →

Even texture: stacked stone panels

If you want a calm, uniform face on a courtyard wall or an entry pier, Z Cut panels deliver it. They come pre-assembled at 15 x 60 or 20 x 60 cm and five to a box, and are published as suitable for external and internal use including bathrooms, kitchens, back splashes, feature walls and fire surrounds.

Strong shadow lines: ledgestone

Ledgestone suits a wall you want to read as layers from the street. Cross Ledgestone panels are L60 x W20 cm at 2 to 4 cm thickness, 0.105 m2 a piece and four to a carton, in quartz, granite, slate and quartzite. The varying thickness is what throws the shadow, so judge it in raking light rather than flat shade.

No repeat at all: free form loose stone

Laid piece by piece, free form stone never shows a pattern. Pieces run 200 to 500 mm wide and 15 to 40 mm thick in granite, quartz, sandstone and quartz-mix, and the range is published for dry wall stack or grouted wall design. It is the slowest format to lay and the most individual result.

See it on a wall at Springwood

Samples settle colour; a display wall settles pattern. Springwood has display walls and is open Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm, Friday 7am to 12pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm, closed Sunday. It is also the only site that releases pickup orders, so you can choose and collect in the same visit.

Check the wall behind before you decide

Format choice is limited by what is already there. Our free form pages note compatibility with substrates like concrete, plasterboard, existing tiles, green screeds, fibre cement and approved waterproofing membranes, immediately qualified by the note that application details change with the adhesive, substrate and stone. Your installer or certifier makes that call.

Local insights

Matching stone to a mixed Marsden streetscape

Marsden holds 4,759 private dwellings and 14,795 people, with an average 3.3 people per household and a median age of 28. One in five occupied dwellings is a semi-detached, row, terrace or townhouse dwelling, and the rest are separate houses, so a single street can present face brick, painted render and light-coloured sheeting within a few doors of each other. A stone that looks right against red brick can fight a cream rendered wall two metres away.

That is why the shortlist matters more here than the stone family. The three formats we stock behave differently in the same light: stacked stone panels hold an even texture that tends to recede, ledgestone throws horizontal shadow that pulls a wall forward, and free form loose stone reads as individual pieces close up and as mottled tone from the footpath. Samples sort this out in an afternoon.

There are two practical limits to keep in view while choosing. The first is the wall behind. ARDEX Australia's technical bulletin TB148 states that under AS 3958 concrete block and brick should be rendered before cladding tiles are adhesive fixed, that stack stone cladding tiles frequently weigh in the order of 50 to 80 kg per square metre, and that appropriately qualified and certified engineers should determine the suitability of the sub-wall - ARDEX's guidance, which we pass on rather than replace. The second is approvals: Logan City Council treats a fence of not more than 2 metres, excluding pool fencing, and a retaining wall of not more than 1 metre with no building or driveway load on it, as accepted development, and private building certifiers have issued building approvals in Logan since April 1998. Our part in a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden project is the stone, the published specifications and the samples; we supply Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden rather than install it.

Questions we hear

Choosing a finish: Marsden questions

How many samples can I order, and how fast do they arrive?⌄

You can add up to three samples to your cart by selecting the SAMPLE option on a product page, and sample orders ship within three working days from Queensland. Three is enough to compare a stacked stone panel, a ledgestone piece and a free form stone side by side against your own wall, which is the comparison most Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden buyers actually need.

Which format gives the flattest, most even face?⌄

The Z Cut stacked stone panels. They are supplied pre-assembled at 15 x 60 x 1.5 cm or 20 x 60 x 1.5 cm, so the texture repeats evenly across a wall. Ledgestone, at 2 to 4 cm thickness, deliberately varies in depth and casts stronger horizontal shadow, and free form loose stone at 15 to 40 mm thick is the most uneven of the three by design.

Can I lay the stone dry-stacked, or does it need grout?⌄

Both are published options for our ranges. The free form loose stone range is listed as suitable for dry wall stack or grouted wall design, and our stacked stone copy says a panel works best dry stacked for a striking, monolithic look, though grout can be added for defined lines. Decide this while you have the samples, because the joint treatment changes the finished look as much as the stone does.

Can I see the cladding on a real wall before ordering?⌄

Yes. Our Springwood warehouse at 3362 Pacific Highway has physical display walls and is open Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm, Friday 7am to 12pm and Saturday 9am to 2pm, closed Sunday. It is also the only site where orders are collected. The Baringa showroom on the Sunshine Coast has display walls too, but it is display only and offers no pickup.

Does the existing wall limit which format I can choose?⌄

It can. Our free form product pages note compatibility with substrates like concrete, plasterboard, existing tiles, green screeds, fibre cement and approved waterproofing membranes, then qualify it: application details change according to the adhesive used, the substrate and the stone specifications. ARDEX also recommends that qualified engineers determine whether a sub-wall is suitable. Confirm the wall with your installer or certifier before you lock in a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden format.

Will the stone need sealing, and does that change the colour?⌄

Our free form pages state that the majority of natural products must be sealed immediately post laying, and tell buyers to check the sealer manufacturer's guidelines for the reapplication period in years. Some sealers are enhancing, which deepens tone, so test a sealer on a spare sample before you treat the wall. Aqua Mix Enrich'N'Seal, which we stock, instructs that on vertical surfaces you apply bottom to top, or apply to each tile prior to installation.

Once I have picked a format, how do I order the right quantity?⌄

Order in pack units. Stacked stone panels come five to a box, giving 0.45 m2 or 0.6 m2. Cross Ledgestone is 0.105 m2 a piece and four pieces to a 0.42 m2 carton. Free form loose stone ships as one square metre layers. Corner pieces are separate items, and when you measure for corners you use the external dimension, not the inside size.

Can I lay it myself?⌄

Many of our customers do, across all three formats, and they tell us so unprompted. One review reads: "Did it myself after asking husband to clad the wall for years. It looks beautiful." We supply stone, published specifications and sealers rather than installation, so adhesive and substrate decisions rest with you, your installer or a certifier.

About the supplier

Marsden background, and where to come and look

Marsden began as farmland. In 1944 Bill Anderson subdivided land between what are now First and Fifth Avenues into four-acre farmlets and offered them to ex-servicemen and post-war immigrants, on condition the owners planted macadamia trees; frosts killed the trees in the first winter, so residents turned to poultry and mixed farming instead. The Macadamia Production Company was sold to Raymond Percy Spinks in 1950, and title deeds followed a survey in April 1956. The Kingston Park Progress Association named Marsden Park after Violet Marsden, one of its oldest members, and from 1 May 1976 Beaudesert Shire Council used Marsden as a locality name for the parts of Kingston inside its boundary.

There is no Stone and Rock office or yard in Marsden. We serve the suburb from our Springwood warehouse, which holds the stock, the display walls and the only pickup counter, and the hours listed below are Springwood's. Samples for a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden shortlist are posted from Queensland, and a finished Natural Stone Wall Cladding Marsden order is either delivered or collected at Springwood.
