Natural Stone Wall Cladding | Waterford West, Logan

Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West

The wall most people in Waterford West actually look at is the one on the street: a rendered block fence, a letterbox pier, the low wall that fronts a townhouse driveway. We supply the stone for those faces. Stone and Rock is a natural stone supplier, not an installer, so you get the formats, the published panel and piece weights, and the box and crate quantities in writing before you buy. Order Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West online or pick it up at our Springwood warehouse. Ask us about Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West stock and sample options.

Waterford West streets mix detached houses with townhouses: at the 2021 Census 74.1% of occupied dwellings were separate houses and 20.7% were semi-detached, row, terrace or townhouse dwellings. That mix puts a lot of plain block and render at the footpath, and Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West buyers usually want to change that face without rebuilding anything. The challenge is that a fence wall or pier is not a house wall: height limits, loads and substrate all matter. We help by publishing the specification for every format we sell, so you or your tiler can match Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West stock to the wall you already have.

Why choose us

Why Waterford West buyers order their stone from us

We sell stone and we say what is in the box. That matters most on street-front walls, where a pier and a fence panel can take different quantities and different weights from the same range. Here is what you get when you order Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West stock from Stone and Rock.

  • Three formats, one collection. Stackstone panels, Ledgestone panels and Free Form Loose Stone sit under one parent collection, spanning slate, quartz, quartzite, sandstone, limestone, travertine and granite.
  • Published weights, not guesses. Stack Stone Z Cut panels are listed at approximately 3.9-4 kg per panel and 42.9-44 kg per square metre; Ledgestone pieces at approximately 7.15 kg each; Free Form Loose Stone at approximately 65 kg per square metre.
  • Corners priced separately. Corner and return pieces are sold as their own items - by the lineal metre on free-form stone, and as matching corner units on ledgestone - so a wall with piers needs its corners counted, not estimated from area.
  • Samples before you commit. Add up to three samples to the cart from the product page; they ship within three working days from Queensland.
  • See it and take it the same day. Our Springwood warehouse has display walls and is our only pickup site, open Saturdays 9am-2pm.
  • No installation spec from us. We publish the stone data and point you to the adhesive and sealer manufacturers; Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West installation decisions stay with your tiler or certifier.

The range

Stone for fence walls, piers and boundary faces

These are the street-front jobs Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West buyers bring us most. Each one is a supply job: we quote stone, corners and freight or pickup for Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West projects, and leave the fixing to your trade.

Rendered block fence walls

Flat render reads as a blank panel from the footpath. Stackstone panels cover it in regular courses, which suits a long run where you want the pattern to stay even between piers. Panels are supplied at 15 x 60 x 1.5 cm or 20 x 60 x 1.5 cm, five to a box, so a fence length converts cleanly into boxes.

Entry and letterbox piers

A pier is mostly corners, and corners are the quantity people under-order. Ledgestone is supplied with matching corner pieces measured on the external dimension, so a pier can be ordered as flats plus the exact number of returns it needs. Good for the two piers either side of a driveway.

Low boundary and garden walls

Under-metre walls along a side boundary take a looser look well. Free Form Loose Stone is published as suitable for dry wall stack or grouted wall design, shipped as 1 m2 layers in 15 m2 crates, with corners sold by the lineal metre. Best where the wall face is uneven and a panel grid would show it.

Townhouse courtyard dividers

Shared courtyard walls are small areas with lots of edges. Buying by the box keeps waste down: a stackstone box covers 0.45 m2 or 0.6 m2, and a ledgestone carton 0.42 m2. Suits body corporate or townhouse owners doing one face at a time rather than a whole yard.

Samples and colour matching

Street walls sit next to brick, render, roof tiles and a letterbox you are keeping. Ordering up to three samples lets you hold the stone against all of them in Waterford West daylight before a crate is freighted. Samples ship within three working days from Queensland.

Springwood pickup runs

Stone is heavy and freight on a part-crate is money. Our Springwood warehouse is the only pickup point, has display walls, and opens Mon-Thu 8am-4pm, Fri 7am-12pm and Sat 9am-2pm. Suits anyone with a trailer and a weekend start on a fence face.

Local insights

What Waterford West streets ask of a cladded wall

Residential development in Waterford West began in the 1970s, and the suburb was only gazetted in 1987. That history shows in the streetscape: 38.5% of occupied dwellings have three bedrooms and 27.3% have two, with an average of three bedrooms per dwelling, so blocks are modest and the front boundary does a lot of the visual work. With 1.7 motor vehicles per dwelling on average, driveways and the piers beside them are the busiest part of that boundary.

Two local rules shape what you can do there. Logan City Council lists a fence of not more than 2 metres high (excluding swimming pool fencing) as accepted development, and a retaining wall of not more than 1 metre high as accepted development only where there is no load above it like a building or driveway. Accepted development still has to meet the Logan Planning Scheme 2015 and the Queensland Development Code, and private building certifiers have issued building approvals in Logan since April 1998 - so a certifier, not us, is who confirms your particular wall.

The practical consequence for Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West jobs is that cladding adds weight and thickness to a structure that was designed without it. ARDEX guidance is that individual pieces of around 4 kg or more can be considered heavy, and that 32 kg/m2 is a common system-design threshold for many substrates and adhesive systems, with rendered brickwork typically in that range and concrete up to around 60 kg/m2. Our approach is to hand over the published weight for each format first, so your tiler or certifier can rule a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West format in or out before you pay freight on it.

Questions we hear

Fence wall and pier questions from Waterford West

Does my Waterford West fence wall need council approval before I clad it?⌄

Ask a private building certifier about your specific wall. Logan City Council lists a fence of not more than 2 metres high, excluding swimming pool fencing, as accepted development, and accepted development still has to meet the Logan Planning Scheme 2015 and the Queensland Development Code. Private building certifiers have issued building approvals in Logan since April 1998. We supply stone and cannot give you an approval answer or a structural opinion.

How many corner pieces should I order for two driveway piers?⌄

Count the external corners, not the area. Corner and return pieces are sold as separate items across our cladding ranges - by the lineal metre on Free Form Loose Stone, as matching corner units measured on the external dimension for Ledgestone. A square pier has four external corners for its full height, so the lineal metres add up quickly. Send us the pier height and count and we will list the corner quantity with the flats.

Which format is lightest for a rendered block fence?⌄

Our Stack Stone Z Cut panels are published at approximately 3.9-4 kg per panel and 42.9-44 kg per square metre, which is the lightest published figure across our main cladding formats; Free Form Loose Stone is published at approximately 65 kg per square metre. ARDEX guidance notes 32 kg/m2 as a common system-design threshold and puts rendered brickwork typically in that range, so give your tiler the published number.

Can I clad a retaining wall in my back yard?⌄

Logan City Council lists a retaining wall of not more than 1 metre high as accepted development, provided there is no load above it like a building or driveway. Anything taller, or with load above, is a certifier question. We publish piece weights and format data for Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West orders, but the structural suitability of an existing retaining wall is not something a stone supplier can assess.

Do I have to grout free-form stone, or can it be dry stacked?⌄

Both are published options. Every product in our Free Form Loose Stone range is described as suitable for dry wall stack or grouted wall design, and our stackstone copy notes a panel works best dry stacked for a striking, monolithic look, though grout can be added for defined lines. One verified customer review describes installing free-form stone with no grout over primed bricks using a heavy-duty tile adhesive, calling it time consuming but very rewarding.

What substrates does your cladding go on?⌄

On one Free Form Loose Stone listing we publish that it is compatible with substrates like concrete, plasterboard, existing tiles, green screeds, fibre cement and approved waterproofing membranes - immediately qualified by a note that application details can change according to the adhesive used, substrate and stone specifications. None of our product information is an installation guide. Confirm the substrate with your adhesive manufacturer and your tiler.

Can I pick up a Natural Stone Wall Cladding Waterford West order instead of paying freight?⌄

Yes. Our Springwood warehouse at 3362 Pacific Highway is the only pickup site, and it has display walls so you can see formats mounted before you load. Staffed hours are Mon-Thu 8am-4pm, Fri 7am-12pm and Sat 9am-2pm, closed Sunday. Bring a trailer rated for the load - free-form stone ships as 1 m2 layers at roughly 65 kg each.

Does the stone need sealing once the wall is done?⌄

Our free-form product pages state that the majority of natural products must be sealed immediately post laying, and direct buyers to check the sealer manufacturer's guidelines for the reapplication period in years. We stock Aqua Mix Enrich'N'Seal, which the manufacturer documents for all unsealed natural stone including granite, slate, limestone, travertine and quartzite, for interior and exterior use, and which carries its own vertical-surface application instruction.

About the supplier

Business information for Waterford West orders

Waterford West began as farm land on the Logan River. Arthur Pimm took up riverfront land in 1862, a ferry crossed from Waterford from about 1863, and Henry Eden held the first official ferry licence in 1865. Pimm marketed the estate as Pimlico in 1866 without success; Henry Jordan bought it in 1869, renamed it Tygum and built a sugar mill in 1869-70. The river was bridged in 1876, the 1974 flood washed away two houses, and a high-level bridge followed in 1996. Residential development began in the 1970s, the area was split between Logan and Albert Shires in 1978, and Waterford West was gazetted as a suburb in 1987.
